The title Libertango is a portmanteau of Libertad – Spanish for liberty – and Tango, marking Piazolla’s break in the mid 1970s from Classical Tango to Tango Nuevo; the composer revolutionised tango by including jazz and classical elements into the traditional style. It is one of his most performed works and arranged here for Oboe soloist or Soprano Saxophone soloist and band.
