Beethoven himself called the composition Sonate facile oder Sonatine. Although comparatively easier to play than most of his piano sonatas, it shows all the “typical“ stylistic elements, such as surprising changes of dynamics or key. For this reason, this work has become established in piano lessons. Beethoven’s meticulous instructions on phrasing and articulation suggest that he was aware of their need for less-skilled players. This single edition replenishes the musical text as contained in Vol. 3 (UT50429) with notes on interpretation and practice tips by Nils Franke.
