Romance, Op. 28, No. 2 in F Sharp

This wistful Romance is the central and most popular Romance from the set of 3 in Robert Schmann's Op.28. It is titled 'Einfach' ('Simply'), which reflects its simple theme and harmonies but also restricts the music's range - asif the theme is reticent to venture beyond its borders. Finally it is made to but the theme has to become darker for this to happen, and the piece thereafter grows in expressive range.
