Virga Jesse

The motet Virga Jesse may be considered a model for the a cappella style in Anton Bruckner’s choral music repertoire which above all lives from great extremes: The piece passes through an entire spectrum of dynamic nuances in effective crescendo lines; the tonal range of the individual voices are used to their limits and the harmonic progressions flow in a rapid change throughout the generously measured tonal space.
